Alper Mestçi — Biography

Alper Mestçi was born in Istanbul in 1969. He entered the media industry in 1995, working as an editor, copywriter and director on programs including atv's Şok, Kanal D's Beyaz Show and Zaga, Kanal 6's Hızar, and several TV8 productions, while also writing columns for Milliyet and Tempo. From 2001 he and Hüseyin Özcan ran the anti-media humor website Shockhaber.com, later collecting its material into three books, Saçmalama, Radar Oldum and Takıntılar; their Milliyet column Serin Duruş won a Karaman Turkish Language Award for its skillful use of Turkish. In 2005 he directed his own anti-media sketch program, Dikkat Şahan Çıkabilir, and moved into cinema the following year when a horror story he devised with Güray Ölgü and Şahan Gökbakar was adapted as the film Gen. He made his directorial debut in 2007 with Musallat, followed by the comedy Kanal-İ-Zasyon and the sequel Musallat 2: Lanet. Since 2014 he has written and directed the Siccin horror franchise, becoming one of the most prolific names in Turkish horror cinema as the series reached its ninth installment in 2026, alongside the comedy series Sabit Kanca. Mestçi is married to television presenter Gülhan Şen.
