Born Yang Ying (Angela Yeung Wing) on 28 February 1989 in Shanghai to a Shanghainese mother and a Hong Kong father, the performer moved to Hong Kong at thirteen and signed a modeling contract with Style International Management at fourteen. She combined her English name, Angela, with a childhood nickname, Baby, to create her stage name. Her acting career began with a brief appearance in Trivial Matters in 2007, and she took her first lead role in Love You You in 2011. In 2013, her performance in Young Detective Dee: Rise of the Sea Dragon brought her the Most Popular Actress award at the Beijing College Student Film Festival, following recognition the same year as one of the "New Four Dan Actresses." Joining the variety show Keep Running in 2014 made her a household name in China; that year she also made her Hollywood debut in Hitman: Agent 47 and won the Hundred Flowers Award for Best Supporting Actress for Mojin: The Lost Legend, though critics faulted her acting. She married actor Huang Xiaoming in 2015 and the couple divorced in 2022. In October 2023, reports that she had attended a Paris cabaret show prompted boycott calls from some Chinese social-media users and a temporary restriction of her accounts, even though the venue itself denied she had been present; she was cleared to resume work in mid-2024 and returned in January 2025 with the dramas Everlasting Longing and Back for You.
