Aykut Erçetin — Biography
Aykut Erçetin (born 14 September 1982 in Göppingen) is a German-born Turkish former footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He stands 1.87 m, came through the VfB Stuttgart academy, and was spotted in Germany by Turkish scouts.
He joined Galatasaray in 2003 and spent his first seasons as understudy to Faryd Mondragón. When Mondragón left for Köln at the start of the 2007-08 campaign, Erçetin saw far more action, and Azerbaijani Wikipedia credits his saves with contributing to that season's title. He later served as backup to Leo Franco; in 2009-10 he made 12 appearances, conceded 13 goals and saved a penalty. Spanish Wikipedia records Rizespor as his final club.
He represented Turkey at under-17, under-18, under-21 and B-team level, and Portuguese Wikipedia dates his senior debut to a friendly against Azerbaijan on 12 April 2006. He is reported to speak Turkish, German, English and Latin. The Portuguese entry still describing him as a current Galatasaray player is an outdated snapshot; the Turkish, German and English sources all treat his playing career as finished.
