Bekir Yarangüme — Biography

Bekir Yarangüme (born 28 January 1977 in Aydın) is a Turkish former professional basketball player who played as a small forward; he is 2.00 m tall. After playing for Kombassan Konya from 1996 to 2001, he transferred to the Ankara club TED Kolejliler in 2001 and led the league in scoring that season with a 21.1-point average. He then moved to Türk Telekom, and in 2004 transferred to Beşiktaş, where he became one of the team's key players and helped it reach the TBL final.

Seeing less playing time at Ülkerspor in 2005-06, Yarangüme was selected to the FIBA Eurocup All-Star team and started for the European select five while at Bandırma Banvitspor in 2006-07. During the same period, coach Bogdan Tanjević called him up to the senior national team for the 36th European basketball championship. Despite his scoring contributions, he was known throughout his career more for his defensive play. He returned to Türk Telekom for two further spells, in 2007-2010 and 2011-2012, playing a season at Beşiktaş Cola Turka in between.

He played for Olin Edirne in 2012-13, then signed with the newly rebuilt Darüşşafaka & Doğuş ahead of the 2013-14 season and spent the final part of his career there. Wearing the number 9 jersey, Yarangüme also appears in the Super League's season-by-season lists of top-scoring Turkish players and scoring champions.
