Berkay Özcan — Biography

Born on 15 February 1998 in Karlsruhe, Germany, Berkay Özcan is a dual German-Turkish central midfielder. He began his career in the Karlsruher SC academy before moving to VfB Stuttgart, where he renewed his contract in 2015 and again in 2017 while establishing himself in the first team, and where he also represented Germany at youth level. His family originates from the Hopa district of Artvin, and he later chose to represent Turkey at senior level, making his national team debut in a 2-2 draw against Tunisia on 1 June 2018.

In January 2019 he signed for Hamburger SV, before joining İstanbul Başakşehir on a season-long loan that September; the move was made permanent in July 2020. He won the Süper Lig title with Başakşehir in the 2019-20 season, and in the following seasons was loaned out first to Çaykur Rizespor and then to Fatih Karagümrük. In July 2026, numerous Turkish sports outlets reported that Beşiktaş, with Başakşehir's consent, had reached an agreement in principle to sign Özcan, while negotiations over the transfer fee continued.
