Birol Hikmet — Biography
Birol Hikmet was born on 24 March 1982 in the Akyazı district of Sakarya. A defensive midfielder by position, he was also known for his attacking instincts and long-range shooting. Early in his career he helped Eskişehirspor win promotion to the Süper Lig through the 2007-08 First League play-offs, then finished runner-up with Diyarbakırspor in the 2008-09 season, earning that club promotion as well.
He spent the longest spell of his career at Kardemir Karabükspor, renewing his contract there more than once and winning the First League title with the club in the 2009-10 season. He drew attention on 28 November 2010 with two free-kick goals against Ankaragücü. By 2013 he had made 122 official appearances for Karabükspor, scoring 9 goals, and during that time faced strong Süper Lig sides such as Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe, Beşiktaş and Sivasspor.
He transferred to Adana Demirspor in 2013, making 11 appearances and providing 4 assists. In the middle of that season he moved to Gaziantepspor, then managed by Sergen Yalçın. He signed with Elazığspor on 25 August 2014, then had that contract terminated by mutual consent the following year before transferring to Giresunspor on 2 February 2015. He was among the players who left Giresunspor in 2015, bringing his playing career to a close.
