Buket Alakuş — Biography

Buket Alakuş was born on 1 July 1971 in Istanbul and has built her career in Germany as a screenwriter and director of Turkish origin. Her feature debut as writer-director, Anam (2001), won numerous awards and quickly made her one of the leading figures of Turkish-German cinema. Her second feature, Offside (2005), earned the Adolf Grimme Award, and she went on to direct Finnischer Tango (2008) and Einmal Hans mit scharfer Soße (2013). In the 2020s she directed the Netflix romantic comedy She Said Yes (Evet, Hayır, Belki), set between Germany and Turkey and shot partly in Cappadocia and Istanbul, with a cast that included Katja Riemann and Nursel Köse.
