Bülent Akıncı — Biography

Bülent Akıncı was born on 10 March 1967 in Ankara and has lived in Berlin since 1970; he is a Turkish-German film director, screenwriter and producer. As a young man he worked as a musician, a security guard and an insurance salesman while finishing high school, then went on to study philosophy, art history and theatre studies at the Free University of Berlin. He trained in directing first at the Kaskeline Film School and, from 1996, at Berlin's DFFB film and television academy.

After making several short films, he won the F. W. Murnau Prize in 2002 for A Short Story (2001), starring Gudrun Landgrebe. His first feature, Der Lebensversicherer, premiered at the 56th Berlin International Film Festival in 2006 and later won a prize at the 28th Moscow International Film Festival.

Holding both Turkish and German citizenship, Akıncı is described in some sources as Turkish and in others as German; his filmography is catalogued across IMDb, TMDb and AlloCiné.
