Bülent Ceylan — Biography
Bülent Ceylan was born on 4 January 1976 in Mannheim to a Turkish father and a German mother. He attended Friedrich-Ebert elementary school and Ludwig-Frank-Gymnasium, finished his Abitur in 1995, interned at the music channel VIVA, and briefly studied philosophy and political science before leaving university to pursue a stage career. His November 2002 show Döner for One brought him his national breakthrough, and the programs Halb Getürkt (premiered 2005, broadcast on ZDF in 2006) and Kebabbel Net (2007, broadcast on RTL in 2009) earned him the German Comedy Award for Best Newcomer and the CIVIS Media Prize for integration; his contemporaneous show Ganz Schön Turbülent won him the German Comedy Award for Best Comedian in 2011. He has been a regular on Quatsch Comedy Club, played Mustafa in the series Hausmeister Krause and Jonny in the sitcom Bewegte Männer, and represented Turkey in Stefan Raab's Autoball-EM in 2008. From February 2011 he hosted Die Bülent Ceylan Show on RTL and performed at the Summer Breeze and Wacken Open Air metal festivals. Over his career he has received the Bielefeld Kabarett Prize, the Baden-Württemberg Kleinkunstpreis, two Goldene Schallplatte awards, the Bambi Award, the Order of Merit of Baden-Württemberg and, in 2018, the German Reading Prize; that same year he also appeared in the film Verpiss Dich, Schneewittchen.
