Bülent Ertuğrul

Bülent Ertuğrul — Biography

Bülent Ertuğrul was born on 17 September 1978 in Denizli and is a retired Turkish footballer who played as a defender. He started out in Denizlispor's youth academy, signed a professional contract in 1998 to join the first team, and made his official debut on 9 September 1998 in a Turkish Cup match against Marmaris Belediye Gençlikspor. A season later he was loaned for a season each to Nazillispor and Hatayspor, settling in well at both and becoming a regular starter.

He returned to Denizlispor after two seasons away and played there regularly for two more. His playing time dropped in 2003-04, and he was loaned to Manisaspor for the second half of that season before returning to Denizlispor, where he played four more regular seasons before transferring to Eskişehirspor at the start of 2008-09; his contract there ran until 31 May 2011. He signed with Elazığspor in the summer 2012-13 transfer window and returned to Denizlispor the following season. Across his spells at Denizlispor he made over 200 appearances in the top two divisions, placing him among the club's most-capped and most significant players.

After retiring as a player he moved into coaching, being appointed Denizlispor's sporting director in December 2017 and taking charge at the club again in 2023; on stepping down from that role in November 2023, he said they had left the position, not the club.
