Can Arat — Biography
Can Arat is a former Turkish international footballer of Armenian descent, born on 21 January 1984 in the Merdivenköy neighbourhood of Istanbul's Kadıköy district. Standing 1.90 m tall, he played as a centre-back throughout his career, and his family belongs to the Armenian Apostolic Church.
Arat came up through Fenerbahçe's youth academy, signed his first professional contract with the club in 2002, and made his Süper Lig debut in 2003. After a loan spell at Karşıyaka, he moved to Sivasspor, where he won a lower-division title and earned a call-up to the senior national team, making his debut against Azerbaijan in 2006. He had earlier represented Turkey at youth level and played for the Olympic team, winning a silver medal at the 2005 Mediterranean Games. Back at Fenerbahçe he won the Süper Lig and the Super Cup, before later playing for İstanbul BB, İstanbul Başakşehir, Antalyaspor and Sarıyer; he added another lower-division title with Başakşehir.
After retiring as a player, Arat moved into coaching and in 2023 took up a lecturing post at a university. In January 2026 he was named among the coaches referred to the Professional Football Disciplinary Committee as part of the Turkish Football Federation's betting investigation.
