Cengiz Biçer — Biography
Cengiz Biçer was born on December 11, 1987, in the Swiss town of Grabs to an immigrant family. He began playing football with USV Eschen/Mauren, a Liechtenstein club competing in the Swiss league system, signing a professional contract with the team for the 2007-08 season; a trial with the German club FC St. Pauli around the same time did not lead anywhere.
In 2008 he signed a three-year deal with Samsunspor, but remained behind Hasan Sönmez and made his only appearance for the club on 23 August 2009 against Kardemir Karabükspor before his contract was terminated at season's end. After moving to Mersin İdmanyurdu in 2010, he first played for the reserve side while the first team won promotion to the Süper Lig, appearing in only a handful of first-team matches in the closing weeks of the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons. He joined Göztepe in 2014-15 and got playing time late in the season only after first-choice keeper Egemen Gençalp was injured, then had brief spells with Yomraspor and Kastamonuspor 1966, and also played for Balzers in Liechtenstein.
Internationally, Biçer began with Liechtenstein's under-21 side in 2007 before joining the senior squad in 2009, making his debut on 11 August 2010 in a 1-1 friendly against Iceland. Though he remained behind long-serving first-choice goalkeeper Peter Jehle, he earned 11 caps in total and continued to be called up, including for 2018 World Cup qualifying, even during stretches without regular club football.
