Doğukan Sönmez — Biography

Doğukan Sönmez is a Turkish basketball player, born 1 January 1992 in the Bakırköy district of Istanbul. Standing 2.09 metres tall, he plays the center position.

He took up basketball with amateur club Dostluk Spor in Bakırköy, and his form there earned him a move to Galatasaray's youth academy in 2007. In May 2011 he was selected for the Turkey under-21 national team for the European Under-21 Championship held in Spain, and he was voted best center of the Turkish Youth Men's Basketball Championship. He began training with Galatasaray's first team in 2012, and in the 2013 season held a dual licence that also let him play for TB2L side Fibrobeton İstanbulspor; that same year he was promoted to Galatasaray's first team under coach Ergin Ataman. He saw less playing time than hoped in 2013-14, and moved to Sakarya Büyükşehir Belediyesi for 2014-15.

Later in his career he signed with Torku Konyaspor in 2015, Banvit in 2016 and again in 2018, Ankaragücü in 2024, and TED in 2025. He most recently played for Lokman Hekim Fethiye Belediyespor.
