Ece Temelkuran — Biography
Born in İzmir in 1973, Ece Temelkuran graduated from Ankara University's law faculty before beginning her journalism career at Cumhuriyet. She went on to write columns for Milliyet from 2000 to 2009 and for Habertürk until 2012, while also hosting programs on Habertürk TV; she parted ways with the paper after publishing pieces critical of the government's handling of the Uludere strike, and her writing later appeared in outlets such as The Guardian and Le Monde Diplomatique.
Also known as a poet and novelist, Temelkuran has published works including "Women Who Blow on Knots," "Devir," and the English-language "How to Lose a Country," which examines Turkey's slide from democracy toward authoritarian rule and has been translated into numerous languages. Citing safety concerns, she relocated abroad in 2017 and continues to publish books and commentary in the international press.
