Ersen Martin — Biography

Ersen Martin was born on 23 May 1979 in Marktredwitz, Germany, to a Turkish-German family. He came through the youth ranks of 1. FC Nürnberg, where he made a Bundesliga appearance, before building the bulk of his career in Turkey. At Denizlispor he made more than 100 appearances and scored important goals, becoming one of the club's notable figures, and he also spent two seasons with Recreativo Huelva in Spain's top flight.

Over 12 Süper Lig seasons Martin represented ten different clubs, amassing more than 250 league appearances and over 70 goals; his career also took in spells at Trabzonspor, Beşiktaş, Sivasspor and Göztepe. He won three caps for the Turkey national team and finished his playing days at Eyüpspor. Martin battled health problems in his later years and died on 19 March 2024 in İzmir, where he was laid to rest.
