Fatma Şahin — Biography

Fatma Şahin is a Turkish women's footballer, a goalkeeper, born on 15 December 1990 in the Çiğli district of İzmir. The second of three daughters, she grew up in Istanbul and Gebze before her family settled in İzmir after their home was damaged in the 1999 earthquake. She studied football coaching at the College of Physical Education and Sport at Ege University, graduating in 2014.

Şahin obtained her football license in 2004 and began her career at Elit Çimenspor in her hometown of Balçova. A dispute with her coach led her to seek a move to the newly founded Konak Belediyespor, but her club refused to release her for a year and a half, and the transfer only went through officially in February 2008. With Konak Belediyespor she helped the club become the first Turkish women's side to reach the round of 16 of the UEFA Women's Champions League qualifiers in 2013-14, before moving to 1207 Antalya Muratpaşa Belediyespor in 2015-16 and then returning to Konak. She joined Beşiktaş in 2018-19, winning the league title with the club that season and again in 2020-21, when she was also named the league's best goalkeeper.

She also played for Turkey's under-19 team before establishing herself in the senior national side from 2009 onward. After her spell at Beşiktaş, Şahin moved to Beylerbeyi in 2023, then to Fatih Vatan for the 2024-25 season, before transferring to Trabzon the following season.
