Fatoş Sezer — Biography

Fatoş Sezer was born on 31 January 1958 in Gölcük, the youngest child of Polish parents who had fled the Nazi camps to settle in Turkey during World War II; she lost her father at six and her mother at ten. She began modeling in 1980 and that same year trained in acting and creative drama at Bilsak Theatre Workshop, making her screen debut four years later in Gönlüm ve Ben. She then moved to Paris to study French language and literature at the Sorbonne, and in 1986 married director Mehmet Ulusoy, joining the company of his Théâtre de Liberté.

In the late 1980s she was cast repeatedly in films directed by Halit Refiğ, and her performance in his Kurtar Beni won her Best Supporting Actress at the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival. In the early 1990s she stepped back from cinema to perform in plays staged by her husband, divorcing him in 1994. Later in her career she took roles in television series such as Sıla and worked as art director for the magazines Rugby Türkiye and Auto Türkiye.

Fatoş Sezer died on 1 June 2011 at age 53 of a heart attack in her sleep at her home in Kurtuluş; her funeral prayers were held at Şişli Mosque before burial.
