Gazapizm — Biography

Gazapizm, real name Anıl Murat Acar, was born in Elazığ on 20 July 1988 to parents who were both teachers. In 1997 the family moved to İzmir, where high-school friends Engin Erel and Aykut Şahin drew him into hip-hop. He studied public administration at Dokuz Eylül University, and in 2003 recorded his first rap song at home; in 2004 he and those two friends founded the collective YMF in a Balçova studio and released the mixtape Az Kaldı. In 2008 they issued a second release, Kan Değil Katran, online and toured several cities. In 2009 he put out Majör Depresyon, named for the illness he was being treated for, and it far exceeded sales expectations.

He then released Yeraltı Edebiyatı (2014) and Bir Gün Her Şey (2016), founded the collective Argo İzmir in 2012, and recorded duets with many other artists, most notably Cem Adrian. He reached a wider audience with Kalbim Çukurda and Heyecanı Yok, songs written for the series Çukur; the latter surpassed a hundred million plays on YouTube and took the Best Song prize at the Golden Butterfly Awards. After the 2020 album Hiza, his track Unutulacak Dünler became one of that year's most-streamed songs. Dönmek İçin Eve appeared in 2024, and its 2026 return to the spotlight came via a documentary, a vinyl reissue and a duet with Aleyna Tilki, Tanırım İntiharı.
