Gençer Cansev — Biography

Gençer Cansev was born on 4 January 1989 in the Akdağmadeni district of Yozgat. He began his career in the youth ranks of Küçükköyspor and signed his first professional contract with the club in 2007. He moved to Kartalspor in 2008, then to Giresunspor a season later, and played for Boluspor between 2010 and 2013.

He joined İstanbul Başakşehir in 2013 and helped the club win the TFF First League and earn promotion to the Süper Lig for the 2013-14 season, making his Süper Lig debut in a 0-0 draw with Konyaspor on 18 October 2014. He later moved to Ankaragücü, then to Altay in 2018. When Altay was promoted to the Süper Lig for the 2020-21 season, Cansev was unable to play after suffering consecutive cruciate-ligament injuries in both knees, though he remained with the club.

In July 2024 he agreed to join Karşıyaka, but the move was cancelled a day later after fans protested an old photograph of him planting a Göztepe flag; he joined TFF 2. Lig side Beykoz Anadolu later that year. He was capped seven times for Turkey's youth teams -- four with the under-18s and three with the under-19s -- scoring one goal in those matches.
