Giannis Stankoglou — Biography

Yannis (or Yiannis) Stankoglou is a Greek actor, born 10 January 1974, who worked as a builder in his teens before discovering theatre. He attended the Athens Drama School and the Giorgos Kimoulis Drama School, studied and worked for a time in New York, and then returned to Greece, where he has spent close to two decades working across television, film and theatre.

His film credits include Hardcore (2004), Hostage (2005), The Christmas Tango (2011), Xenia (2014), Cloudy Sunday (2015), Blind Sun (2015), Amerika Square (2016) and The Waiter (2018), and on television he appeared in To Nisi (2010), Agries Melisses (2019) and To Navagio (2023). He won the best actor award at the Montelupo Fiorentino film festival in Florence, and received the Hellenic Film Academy's best supporting actor award in 2019 for The Waiter. Also active on stage, he has toured internationally with productions of Greek tragedy and modern works in China, Latin America and Russia, and appeared in the plays Annie and Lola in October 2025.
