Gina Gershon — Biography

Gina Gershon was born on June 10, 1962, in Los Angeles to a Jewish family; after high school she studied at Emerson College in Boston before transferring to New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. Her career began in theatre, where she was among the founding members of the New York troupe Naked Angels and appeared on Broadway in revivals of Cabaret, Boeing-Boeing and Bye Bye Birdie. On screen, small parts in 1988's Cocktail and Red Heat preceded the international recognition she earned in 1995 for Showgirls; that role, along with her turn in Bound, led her to be regarded as something of an icon among gay audiences. She went on to appear in Face/Off, Killer Joe, House of Versace and Emily the Criminal, among other films, while taking recurring television parts on Rescue Me, How to Make It in America and Riverdale, and voicing Catwoman in the animated series The Batman. Beyond acting, she also sings and writes screenplays; she became known to Turkish audiences through the 2010 film Five Minarets in New York, whose promotional tour took her to Bitlis.
