Gonca Us — Biography
Gonca Us was born in 1969 in İzmir. She graduated from the Sports Academy in 1994, is remembered as a model, and for a time worked as a croupier at a casino in Kuşadası owned by the businessman Ömer Lütfü Topal, who is alleged to have been killed by Abdullah Çatlı.
She is known above all for the road accident near Susurluk, in Balıkesir Province, on 3 November 1996. She died in it together with her partner Abdullah Çatlı and the police chief Hüseyin Kocadağ. The crash exposed links between the state, politics and organised crime, and became known in Turkey as the Susurluk scandal. After the accident it emerged that she had been carrying a false identity in the name of Melahat Özbay.
In later years, statements by some secret witnesses claimed that she and Çatlı were not killed in the crash but shortly afterwards by other people. In 2017 filming began on a film about the crash by Karen Mirza and Brad Butler, told in her voice, with Yasmine Alice playing her.
