Gülay Sezer — Biography

Gülay Sezer, known on stage simply as Gülay (born 24 May 1970 in Istanbul), is a Turkish musician, composer, singer, songwriter and presenter. She is best known to the wider public for the song "Cesaretin Var mı Aşka", a record that made her one of the defining voices of a generation.

Alongside her music she has appeared in acting and screen-music credits, her name attached to the films Her Şey Aşktan (2016) and Damat Takımı (2017) as well as the television series Oğlum İçin (2015).

Health problems have shaped much of her later career. Reported to have beaten cancer twice, she was hospitalised in November 2019 and returned to the stage in December of the same year after treatment. In 2021 it was reported that she had prepared her will before undergoing surgery, and in 2022 she was reported to have left Istanbul.
