Hülya Darcan — Biography

Hülya Darcan, born on 27 April 1951 in İzmir, is a Turkish actress whose career stretches from the Yeşilçam era to present-day television. After finishing high school at Kartal Lisesi she did not continue her education. In 1967, at only sixteen, she placed third in the cover star contest run by the popular Ses magazine, and the film offers that followed launched her acting career the same year.

Her first film, Silahları Ellerinde Öldüler, paired her with established stars such as Fikret Hakan, Ekrem Bora and Tugay Toksöz. During the Yeşilçam years she appeared in numerous productions including Kadın Çetesi (1968), Kendi Düşen Ağlamaz (1969), Dağların Kartalı (1970) and Dudaktan Silaha (1971). In later decades she moved into television with series such as Bizim Ev, Zeybek Ateşi, Büyük Yalan, Binbir Gece, Samanyolu and Dila Hanım.

Darcan married actor Tanju Korel in 1974, having met him in 1971; they had two daughters, Zeynep and actress Bergüzar Korel, whose marriage to Halit Ergenç makes Darcan his mother-in-law. Her widest recognition came as Hayme Hatun, the mother of Ertuğrul, in the historical series Diriliş: Ertuğrul (2014-2019), whose international success made the role known around the world. In 2024 she returned to screens as Neveser Giraylı in Kül Masalı.
