Mahir Sağlık — Biography

Mahir Sağlık was born on 18 January 1983 in Paderborn, Germany, to a Turkish family, and played as a striker. His career began in SC Paderborn 07's youth system; he turned professional in 2000 and was capped for Turkey's youth teams in the early 2000s. His scoring form in the lower leagues earned him a loan move to Borussia Dortmund in 2005, where he made his first European appearance in the UEFA Intertoto Cup, before spells at Austria's FC Admira and various Regionalliga clubs. In the 2007-08 season at Wuppertaler SV Borussia he was the division's top scorer with 27 goals in 34 matches.

That form earned him a move back to the Bundesliga with VfL Wolfsburg under Felix Magath in 2008, followed by loan spells at Karlsruher SC and his former club Paderborn. In 2010 he joined VfL Bochum and then FC St. Pauli. Returning to Paderborn for a third time in 2013, he shared the 2. Bundesliga top-scorer title in the 2013-14 season and helped the club win promotion to the Bundesliga, then drew attention in November 2014 with a goal against his former club Borussia Dortmund.

After leaving Paderborn in 2016, Sağlık played for Vasas FC in Hungary and later for Sakaryaspor in Turkey; a reported move to Göztepe in 2015 did not materialize. In July 2021, following a trial, he signed with German third-tier club SC Verl.
