Melih Gökçek — Biography
Melih Gökçek was born in 1948 in Ankara Keçiören.
After completing his education at the Faculty of Political Sciences of Ankara University, he graduated from the Journalism Vocational College of Gazi University.
Since his childhood years, he lived intertwined with politics because his father was the Gaziantep Provincial Chairman of the Justice Party.
He worked as a newspaper representative, a parliamentary correspondent and a deputy private secretary at the Ministry of Labor; and for a period he served as the General Director of the Social Services and Child Protection Agency.
In the 1991 general elections, he took his place in parliament as a Welfare Party deputy for Ankara, and in 1994 he ran for the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayoralty and won the election.
Melih Gökçek set a record by winning elections for 4 consecutive terms and still continues to serve in his post as Metropolitan Municipality Mayor.
