Meral Akşener — Biography
Meral Akşener was born in 1956 in İzmit.
After completing her education in the History Department of the Faculty of Letters at İstanbul University, she earned her doctorate at the Institute of Social Sciences of Marmara University.
In 1995 she became the Chairwoman of the DYP Women's Branch, and later she was elected as a Nationalist Movement Party deputy for İstanbul in the 23rd and 24th term elections of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).
In 2007, during the 23rd term, she became the first female politician to be elected Deputy Speaker of the TBMM.
In 2016 the Central Disciplinary Committee of the Nationalist Movement Party expelled Meral Akşener, and it was decided that she be punished with definitive removal from party membership.
