Murat Didin — Biography
Kamil Murat Didin was born on 19 March 1955 in Istanbul and studied civil engineering at Middle East Technical University. He began his coaching career in the 1982-83 season at Ankara DSİ Spor, then coached clubs including Güney Sanayii, Hortaş Yenişehir, Beslen and TED Kolejliler Ankara. He landed his first major title in 1994, winning the President's Cup with Fenerbahçe.
After Kombassan Konya and Pınar Karşıyaka, his biggest success came at Ülkerspor, where he won a Turkish Basketball League title and two President's Cups. He moved to Italy in 2002 to coach Basket Rimini, then led Germany's Deutsche Bank Skyliners to the Bundesliga runners-up spot in 2004-05. His 2005-07 spell at Beşiktaş ended in a mutually agreed termination over personal and squad problems; he then returned to Frankfurt from 2007-10, taking the team to the play-off semi-finals. He led Düsseldorf's Gloria Giants into the Bundesliga between 2010 and 2013, coached Lithuania's Sintek Jonava in 2018, and finally parted ways with Skyliners in 2017.
Regarded as one of the pioneering Turkish basketball coaches to work in Europe, Didin has also worked as a sports commentator and columnist, and as of the 2025-26 season he is in charge of İTÜ Tam Finans. He is married to Sibel Didin, a former Turkey national volleyball player, and the couple have three children.
