Mustafa Yürür — Biography

Mustafa Yürür was born on 26 June 1938 in Istanbul, although some sources give Erzincan as his birthplace. A midfielder, he was known by the nickname "Böbrek Mustafa" (Kidney Mustafa). He turned professional in 1957 with Beykoz, which he joined from the youth ranks of Sarıyer; he made his debut against Vefa in the Istanbul Professional League and scored twice against Kasımpaşa the following week.

At the start of the 1959-60 season he moved to Galatasaray and became one of the club's important players in the 1960s. With the Istanbul side he won the league in 1961-62 and 1962-63, the Turkish Cup four seasons in a row from 1962-63 to 1965-66, and the President's Cup in 1966. He played 258 league matches and scored 10 goals, and he ranks 17th on Galatasaray's list of players with the most top-flight appearances. He made his debut for Turkey on 27 November 1960 against Bulgaria and won 18 caps through 1968, without scoring. In 1968 he joined İzmirspor, then moved to Mersin İdman Yurdu after that club's relegation, and he retired at the end of the 1971-72 season.

He began coaching in 1980 at İstanbulspor. Over the following years he led sides including Yenişehirspor, Cihangirspor, Leventspor, Çorluspor, Silivrispor, Kasımpaşa and Vefa, worked in the Galatasaray youth system in 1982, and returned to İstanbulspor from 1988 to 1989. His final post was Anadoluhisarı İdman Yurdu in the 1998-99 season.
