Nedim Günar — Biography

Born Emin Nedim Günar on 2 January 1932 in the Bandırma district of Balıkesir, he spent the bulk of his playing career as a defender for Fenerbahçe, where the club regards him as one of its legendary players, and he also played for Vefa. Known for his physical resilience and combative style, which earned him the nickname “Hacıyatmaz”, he was part of the Turkish national squad at the 1954 FIFA World Cup.

After retiring as a player he moved into coaching, later managing Fenerbahçe as well as Rizespor. From the 1990s until his death he remained closely tied to Fenerbahçe as a member of the club's Yüksek Divan Genel Kurulu (Senior Advisory Board).

Nedim Günar died on 7 September 2011 in Istanbul; his funeral was held the following day at Zühtüpaşa Mosque in Kızıltoprak.
