Nil Karaibrahimgil — Biography

Ferhan Nil Karaibrahimgil Erener (born 17 October 1976 in Ankara) is a Turkish singer, songwriter, author and advertising professional who usually performs under the short stage name Nil. The daughter of pop musician Suavi Karaibrahimgil and fashion designer Berrin Karaibrahimgil, she was drawn to music from an early age, writing her first composition at twelve and later learning piano and guitar.

She graduated from Boğaziçi University's Department of Political Science and International Relations in 2000. From the age of twelve she worked as a copywriter at advertising agencies, composing commercial jingles and winning Crystal Apple awards for that work. Her breakthrough came through the Hazırkart commercials, in which she sang Ben Özgürüm; the tune made her famous as the 'Free Girl', and she appeared alongside Tarkan in later installments of the campaign.

Her debut album Nil Dünyası appeared in 2002, followed by Nil FM (2004), Tek Taşımı Kendim Aldım (2006) and Nil Kıyısında (2009), whose lead single Seviyorum Sevmiyorum topped the Turkish charts for six weeks. In 2007 she was nominated for Best Turkish Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards. She wrote a column in Hürriyet's Kelebek supplement and published several books. She played Mimi in the 2008 film A.R.O.G. In 2010 she married advertiser Serdar Erener; their son Aziz Arif was born in 2014.
