Okan Murat Öztürk — Biography
Okan Murat Öztürk, born in 1967 in Ankara, is a musician and master of the bağlama who specialises in traditional Anatolian music. He began his working life as a bağlama player with the Ministry of Culture Choir and at TRT, and went on to pursue both practical and theoretical work on the instrument.
In 1988 he founded the Bengi Bağlama Trio, which took part in festivals. He has given concerts in Turkey and abroad, appearing both as a soloist and with the trio. His solo albums include Turkish Authentic Saz (1997), Eski Havalar (1998), Bergüzar (2003), Aşk Adamı Söyletir (2007) and Sevda Sitem Götürmez (2011). With the Bengi Bağlama Trio he made Güneş Bahçesinden Ezgiler (1999), Sel Gider Kum Kalır (2001) and Yeni Gelenek (2009), and he recorded Hiç (1999) together with Erkan Oğur.
As a musicologist he wrote a book on Zeybek culture, Zeybek Kültürü ve Müziği.
