Ömer Aysan Barış — Biography

Ömer Aysan Barış was born on 23 July 1982 in İzmit and grew up in Kocaeli. He began in amateur football at Gölcükspor and joined Kocaelispor's academy in 1999; as a teenager he lived through the 1999 İzmit earthquake. Though described as a midfielder, he played mostly as a full-back, first on the left and later on the right, and was known for helping his side going forward.

He signed a professional contract with Kocaelispor in 2000, debuted on 22 December 2000, spent five seasons there and won the 2002 Turkish Cup. After moving to Bursaspor in 2005 he returned from an early-season injury to become an important member of the team. In 2008 he joined Ankaraspor and left when the club was expelled from the top flight. He signed with Trabzonspor in October 2009, played 11 matches, and the contract was terminated in April 2010. He joined Manisaspor in 2010 and stayed two seasons, scoring his only goal for the club away at Fenerbahçe. In 2012 he signed a one-year deal with Mersin İdmanyurdu, left in April 2013, and moved to Şanlıurfaspor in the winter break of 2013-14, ending his career there. He was never capped by Turkey.

In a 2010 interview with the Turkish Football Federation he said of his profession, "Football is my love". He married in 2021.
