Orkun Kökçü — Biography
Orkun Kökçü (b. 29 December 2000, Haarlem) is a Turkish international footballer of Dutch birth who plays as a midfielder. He plays for Süper Lig side Beşiktaş. At the international level he represents the Turkey national team.
Kökçü began playing football in the Netherlands, coming up through the Feyenoord youth academy and being promoted to the first team in 2018. He won the Dutch Super Cup in 2019 and became Eredivisie champion in 2023. He was also named Eredivisie Player of the Year and Footballer of the Year in the Netherlands in 2023. In July 2023 he transferred to Benfica for a club-record fee of 30 million euros. As team captain of the Portuguese side he won the Portuguese Super Cup and the League Cup. While playing in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup he clashed with head coach Bruno Lage, and in July 2025 he transferred to Süper Lig side Beşiktaş for a club-record fee of 30 million euros. In the 2025-26 season he was named Player of the Season in the Süper Lig by Sofascore.
Kökçü represents the Turkey national team at the international level. First called up to the national team by Şenol Güneş in 2020, he represented his country at the 2020 and 2024 UEFA European Championships and the 2026 FIFA World Cup. In 51 appearances for the national team he recorded 4 goals and 10 assists.
