R. Kan Albay — Biography
R. Kan Albay (born Erkan Altunbay on 1 September 1975 in Antwerp) is a Belgian director, screenwriter and actor of Turkish descent. Every source refers to him by the shortened form "R. Kan Albay." He holds both Belgian and Turkish citizenship and publishes his work through his own official website.
He has worked in film and television since the early 2000s, appearing in Flemish productions as well as projects originating in Turkey. He had a role in the 2017 film Mavi Sessizlik. Because he works as director, writer and performer at once, he is claimed by both the Belgian and the Turkish film scenes.
His birth details differ between sources: most records give 1 September 1975, while Albanian-language sources state 1971; his birthplace is likewise given as either Antwerp or Namur. The weight of the records favours 1975 and Antwerp.
