Şanver Göymen — Biography
Şanver Göymen was born on 22 January 1967 in Samsun. A goalkeeper who started in the youth setup of Samsunspor, he rose to the first team as a back-up keeper. On 20 January 1989 he was seriously injured in the bus accident at Havza that hit the Samsunspor party on its way to a match against Malatyaspor, and he returned to football after a long rehabilitation.
He turned professional at Merzifonspor and played for Denizlispor from 1991 to 1993. His name was made at Altay, whom he joined in 1993 and stayed with until 1998, becoming one of the Izmir club's best-remembered players; it is said that he chose to stay there despite interest from Galatasaray. He then played for Konyaspor (1998-99), Çanakkale Dardanelspor (1999-2001) and Manisaspor, and retired in 2002. Under Fatih Terim he was named in the Turkey squad ten times and played in five matches; as second-choice keeper behind Rüştü Reçber he was at Euro 1996 but did not play.
After retiring he turned to coaching, working as goalkeeper coach at Karşıyaka, Aydınspor and Altay and with South Africa's Golden Arrows, and from 2010-11 in the same role at Çaykur Rizespor alongside Ümit Kayıhan. In February 2014 he took over as manager of Nevşehirspor, and in 2019 he started at Torbalıspor. His son Bora Göymen is also a goalkeeper and has named his father as his role model.
