Şaziye İvegin — Biography

Şaziye İvegin is a small forward who played for Turkey's women's national team for many years, in squads that won gold at the 2005 Mediterranean Games and silver at EuroBasket Women 2011. After leaving the court she worked on the administrative side of basketball, becoming responsible for the women's national teams at the Turkish Basketball Federation in February 2022. She also became known to a wider audience outside sport through the Survivor competition in 2020.

The daughter of a basketball player, she started the sport in 7th grade on the same day as her two younger sisters. The three played together at Botaş in Adana and twice won the girls' championship. At 22 she became team captain, regarded as the country's youngest, and she stayed ten years at Botaş, a period in which the club won the Super League, cups and a Ronchetti Cup runner-up place. On 7 May 2004 she moved to Fenerbahçe, winning league, Turkish Cup and Presidential Cup titles there and finishing second in the EuroCup in 2005. In later years she played for Beşiktaş, Spartak Moscow, Galatasaray and Mersin Metropolitan Municipality; she returned to Fenerbahçe and spent 2011-12 with Galatasaray Medical Park. With Galatasaray she won the 2009 EuroCup.

With the national team she finished fifth at the 2012 Olympics and third at the 2013 European Championship. She also studied business administration at Anadolu University alongside her sporting career.
