Simge Sağın — Biography

Simge Sağın was born on August 8, 1981, in the Şişli district of Istanbul. With her father's encouragement she enrolled at the Istanbul Technical University Turkish Music State Conservatory, where she received formal music training and worked as a backing vocalist for several pop singers during her studies. In 2011 she launched her solo career with the EP "Yeni Çıktı", produced by Erdem Kınay, though the release did not bring her the recognition she had hoped for.

Her real breakthrough came four years later with the 2015 single "Miş Miş", which topped the charts for four consecutive weeks. The follow-up singles "Yankı" and "Ben Bazen" also reached the top of the charts, while "Öpücem" climbed to number one nationwide. Her debut studio album, "Ben Bazen", released in 2018, was praised by critics for its musical diversity.

Citing Sezen Aksu as an influence, Simge has largely built her catalogue around dance-pop songs. From 2015 onward her music became a staple of Turkish radio and television programming, and by 2018 she ranked as the country's second most-streamed female artist. Over the course of her career she has received numerous awards, including two Golden Butterfly Awards and three Radio Boğaziçi Music Awards.
