Soner Örnek — Biography

Soner Örnek was born on 28 February 1989 in the Şahinbey district of Gaziantep. A defender, he started out in the youth system of Gaziantepspor and signed a professional contract in 2008. In the second half of the 2008-09 season he was loaned to Şanlıurfaspor, and in 2009-10 he took the number 4 shirt at Gaziantepspor after the departure of the club's captain.

He also represented Turkey at youth level, earning seven caps in total: six for the U-19s and one for the U-20s.

Later in his club career he played for several sides across Anatolia. He signed for Tarsus İdmanyurdu in 2014 and also played for Bursaspor. A large part of his career was spent at Hatayspor, with whom he played in the Süper Lig in 2020-21 before the two parted ways in May 2021. Across his years in the TFF First League and the Süper Lig he was known as a player who held down the defensive line.
