Tamer Güney — Biography
Mustafa Tamer Güney was born on 6 January 1936 in Bilecik. Between 1956 and 1969 he played as a midfielder for PTT, Hacettepe and MKE Ankaragücü. After retiring as a player he began coaching at Orduspor, where he worked in 1969-70. He later managed teams including PTT, Balıkesirspor, MKE Ankaragücü, Adanaspor and Kayseri Erciyesspor, and was at Ayvalıkgücü in 1985-86.
In 1990 he became chief adviser to the Turkish Football Federation, a post he held until 1995. After a year working with the Gaziantep youth setup, he led Galatasaray's academy from 1995 to 2000 and had a hand in the development of players such as Emre Belözoğlu and Fatih Akyel. In 2000 he moved to Fenerbahçe's academy. In the closing weeks of the 2002-03 season, after Werner Lorant and then his successor Oğuz Çetin had left, he took charge of the first team; in nine matches he recorded one win, five draws and three defeats.
In 2005-06 he worked in the youth setup of Etimesgut Şekerspor, moved up to the senior side at the start of 2006-07 and then left the post. The youngsters he had developed there became amateur-league under-19 Turkish champions in 2006-07. Tamer Güney died in Istanbul on 22 August 2020, aged 84.
