Between Miracles

Between Miracles (Per grazia ricevuta) is a 1971 Italian comedy drama written, directed by and starring Nino Manfredi, marking his debut as a feature film director.

The story follows Benedetto, a man who suffers a serious accident and is rushed to hospital. While doctors fight to save his life, the half-conscious Benedetto drifts through his own past: his childhood, his family, his first love and the turning points that shaped him. Religious devotion, erotic longing and old grudges mingle in these memories, painting a portrait of his life that is by turns funny and touching.

The film carries autobiographical echoes of Manfredi's own experiences. It was warmly received, winning the Best First Work prize at the 1971 Cannes Film Festival. Manfredi also earned a special David di Donatello for his debut, and the film collected two Nastro d'argento awards for its story and screenplay.
