Emma Hamilton

Emma Hamilton is a 1968 historical drama directed by Christian-Jaque. Made as a co-production between Italy, West Germany and France, the film draws partly on Alexandre Dumas's 1864 novel La Sanfelice. It tells the story of the famous romance between Emma Hamilton, a celebrated beauty in Naples, and Horatio Nelson, the renowned British admiral, an affair that became one of the great scandals of its era. Michèle Mercier stars as Emma, with Richard Johnson as Nelson, and John Mills also appears in the cast. Riz Ortolani composed the score for this lavish costume production, which follows the lovers through their passionate, turbulent years together as their relationship defies the conventions of the society around them.
