Lady Caliph (Italian: La califfa) is a 1970 Italian-French drama film written and directed by Alberto Bevilacqua, who adapted it from his own novel published about a decade earlier. The picture marked Bevilacqua's debut as a film director, as he chose to bring his own literary works to the screen himself. Romy Schneider and Ugo Tognazzi star in the leading roles, supported by a cast that includes Giancarlo Prete and Gianni Rizzo. The film was entered into the 1971 Cannes Film Festival. It is also remembered for its notable musical score, while critical commentary has focused on Bevilacqua's attempt to explore in depth the character portrayed by Schneider.
