Tülay Özer — Biography
Born in the Kemaliye district of Erzincan, the eldest of four sisters, Tülay Özer worked as an accountant before launching a professional music career in 1972. Her 1975 single İkimiz Bir Fidanız, released on the Kent label, was her breakthrough, earning her a Golden Record Award for her first live performance at the İzmir Fuarı.
She topped the charts again in 1978 with the Sezen Aksu composition Büklüm Büklüm, and released the albums Tülay (1976), Seven Ağlatılmaz (1978), Kalbimdeki Sevgili (1981), Özleyiş (1989) and Olmalı Olacak (1993). She consistently supported the rise of her younger sister Zerrin Özer's career rather than competing with her, and her last recorded work was the 2010 duet Kolay Vazgeçmeyi Öğrendim with Kıraç. Having undergone dialysis for kidney failure for about a decade, she died in Istanbul on 1 May 2026 of a cerebral hemorrhage, at the age of 79.
