Tunay Torun — Biography
Tunay Torun (born 21 April 1990 in Hamburg) is a Turkish former international footballer who played as a winger, born and raised in Germany. The son of a tailor father and a mother who worked at a hospital, with family roots in Salıpazarı, Samsun, he stands 1.79 m tall and holds both Turkish and German citizenship.
Torun started playing football at FC St. Pauli in 1996, moved to Hamburger SV's academy at 16, signed a professional contract in 2007 and made his Bundesliga debut on 23 August 2008 against Karlsruher SC, scoring his first goal in November 2009 against Mainz. In 2011 he signed a three-year deal with Hertha Berlin, scoring against his former club Hamburger SV, and was relegated with the team that season. He then moved to VfB Stuttgart on a free transfer in 2012, where injuries limited his playing time.
Torun transferred to Kasımpaşa in January 2014, signed with İstanbul Başakşehir in July 2017, and spent the 2018-19 season on loan at Bursaspor. He later played for Fatih Karagümrük and Çaykur Rizespor before returning to Kasımpaşa in 2022. Having turned down approaches from Germany's youth teams to represent Turkey, he progressed through the national youth ranks from U15 to U21 before making his senior debut on 9 February 2011 in a friendly against South Korea. Since 2024 he has worked as an assistant coach in Hertha Berlin's youth academy.
