Volkan Altın — Biography
Volkan Altın was born on 10 August 1986 in Berlin. A German former footballer of Turkish descent, he holds both German and Turkish citizenship and played as a defensive midfielder, the role Turkish football calls the "ön libero".
He started out in the youth ranks of Trakyaspor, an amateur club founded by Turks in Berlin, and then played in the academies of Tennis Borussia and Hertha Berlin. In 2002 he began playing for Hertha BSC II, and he later spent a season each at Kickers Emden and SV Sandhausen. From 2007-08 he played in Turkey for the Süper Lig side Antalyaspor. In 2011-12 he moved to Orduspor but was judged not good enough by coach Metin Diyadin and sent away; on the last day of that summer's transfer window he joined the second-tier club Altay. At the start of 2013-14 he went to Sarıyer. Later in his career he turned out in Germany for TSG Einheit Bernau and BSV Hürtürkel.
Although he was called up to the Turkey national team many times, he chose Germany instead, and earned ten German youth caps in all: two for the under-17s, six for the under-18s and two for the under-19s.
