Volkan Konak — Biography

Volkan Konak was born on February 27, 1967, in the Maçka district of Trabzon. He studied music at the Istanbul Technical University Turkish Music State Conservatory and went on to become one of Turkish folk music's best-known figures as a composer, songwriter, and singer. He rose to national prominence in the 1990s, particularly following his 1993 album "Efulim," and became known by the nickname "Kuzeyin Oğlu" (Son of the North).

His 2006 album "Mora" earned a gold record from the Turkish recording producers' association MÜ-YAP, and his song "Cerrahpaşa" became one of the defining hits of his career. Drawing heavily on the culture of the eastern Black Sea region, he was known for blending emotional songs with humor and stories about the lives of the region's people during his live performances.

Konak died on March 31, 2025, in Gazimağusa (Famagusta). In the years since, he has continued to be honored by fans and fellow musicians, with tribute concerts held in several Turkish cities in 2026 and his wife, Selma Konak, speaking publicly about his life and legacy.
