Volkan Kürşat Bekiroğlu — Biography

Volkan Kürşat Bekiroğlu (born 20 December 1977 in Kadirli, Osmaniye; some sources say 30 December) is a Turkish retired footballer. He stood 175 cm tall, wore the number 47 shirt, and played as a left back or left midfielder.

He began his career in Adanaspor's youth system and was promoted to the first team three years later; after featuring in only one First League match in his debut season, he became a regular from his second season on and helped Adanaspor finish second in the First League in 1997-98, winning promotion to the Süper Lig. After two more Süper Lig seasons with Adanaspor he transferred to Gaziantepspor, then returned to Adanaspor a season and a half later. When the club was seized by the state over corruption cases against owner Cem Uzan and its players put up for sale, he moved to Trabzonspor; after two seasons there he went on to play for Malatyaspor, Bursaspor, Kocaelispor, and Giresunspor in turn, finishing his career at Adana Demirspor in 2010-11.

He was called up to Turkey's U-21 (A2) national team three times, playing in two of those matches. He won the Turkish Cup with Trabzonspor in 2003-04, finishing that season as the competition's joint top scorer with three goals. His brother Serkan Bekiroğlu is also a footballer and has played for Karşıyaka.
