Yeliz — Biography

Fatma Yeliz Eker, born on 12 December 1957, is a Turkish singer known on stage simply as Yeliz. She attended the Italian High School in Istanbul and began her musical career with the support of Nilüfer, a schoolmate in a higher class. She got her first stage experience as a backing vocalist for Neşe Karaböcek.

She finished second in the Turkish final of the 1975 Eurovision Song Contest. The 45-rpm singles released after the contest made her one of the best-loved voices in Turkish pop. One single, with Bu Ne Dünya on one side and Yalan on the other, became the best-selling record of its time.

From 1978 to 1988 she worked in arabesque and fantasy music. After Haklıydın, the 1992 album with which she returned to pop, she took a break from music, and in 2007 she came back with the album Haykırdım Sessizce.
