Yunus Akgün — Biography
Yunus Akgün was born on 7 July 2000 in Istanbul's Küçükçekmece district. He joined Galatasaray's youth academy in 2011 and signed a professional contract with the club in 2017; the winger made his first official appearance in the 2018 Turkish Super Cup final and, that same season, became one of the youngest Galatasaray players to feature in the Champions League after coming on away to Porto. Loaned to Adana Demirspor at the start of the 2020-21 campaign, he helped the club earn promotion and then spent a second season there, standing out for his high assist tally. Back at Galatasaray, he won the league title in 2022-23 before a 2023-24 loan spell in England with Leicester City, where he also found the net.
Standing 1.73 meters tall and operating as a right winger or attacking midfielder, Akgün went on to make his 100th official appearance for Galatasaray, and a strike he scored against Tottenham Hotspur in 2024-25 was voted UEFA's outstanding goal of that Europa League season. A member of Turkey's senior national team who featured at UEFA Euro 2024, Akgün posted a message apologizing to fans after the side fell short of its goals at the 2026 World Cup.
